Iowa Visions

This is a recent painting I completed. The view is from Seminole Valley park.
I was struck by the old tree and how it was showing the wear and tear
caused by the passing of time.

I am painting by Toddville off of Standlea Road. The scene
is of a corn field and a line of hills. It is a beautiful scene. Everything is alive
and growing. It is a sea of corn. The image above is a field study I painted
on location. It is usually a two hour session and this enables me to get a
better sense of the scene and to capture the color. No matter how many
pictures I take, the color is never good enough to work from.
If a piece shows promise, and this one does, I will use the field studies and the
photos taken to do a larger studio piece.
This is one of the pictures I have taken of the scene. There has been
some interest from the people that live in the area as to what I am
doing by the side of the road. They have a lot of pride in the area.
